Pharmacological effects:

Ipagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. SGLTs are membrane proteins that reside on the cell surface and transfer glucose into cells. SGLT2 is an isoform of the sodium-glucose cotransporter that plays a key role in glucose reuptake in the proximal tubule of the kidney. Ipragliflozin lowers blood sugar levels by inhibiting glucose reuptake.

Biological activity:

Ipragliflozin (ASP1941) is a highly selective sodium-glucosecotransporter2 (SGLT2) inhibitor with an IC50 value of 7.4nM for hSGLT2. Its selectivity for SGLT2 is 254 times that of SGLT1.
